Asterisk Installation

Several options are available:

  • Download and compile asterisk from the original source package

  • Download and install AsteriskNow - packaged product with Asterisk + add-ons created by Digium

  • Download and install Trixbox - packaged product with Asterisk + add-ons maintained by Fonality

I chose to go with the basic "build from source" approach and to learn how to manually configure the system. The packaged versions come with GUIs, database-drive manager applications, etc. so may be a better choice if you don't want to dig into the details.
